Jean Green Wins an OSCA

E-mail Print PDF

In a highly competitive field of ten nominees, Caythorpe's Jean Green won the Nottinghamshire Cricket OSCA (Outstanding Service Cricket Awards) in the "Behind the Scenes" Category during the third annual Award Ceremony at Trent Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Jean now goes forward to the National finals at Lords on 18th October. Jeans award is thoroughly merited recognition of her work behind the scenes at Caythorpe, probably for more years than she cares to remember!!

The whole Club is delighted with her success and wishes her well at Lords.

Congratulations, Jean.

2nd XI beat Cavs 2nd XI

With a couple of games left and not a lot to play for, the second team travelled the relatively short distance to play the West Indian Cavaliers. The incentive was to gain revenge for the loss earlier in the season, when we really should have won.

There may be scandals in the Pakistan set up, but the amount of times that Tim Haines has won the toss is now getting suspicious and the ICC should investigate. A good looking deck and fast outfield meant that batting first was the only option. Matt Stash and PK opened the innings and the pre-match talk was all about keeping wickets in hand.

U11's fall at the final hurdle

E-mail Print PDF

Caythorpe U11's entertained Radcliffe (ROT) in the semi final of the County Cup at Caythorpe.

Edward and George were both ruled out as they were playing football for Forest junior teams.....priorities lads !!!!

In came Ben Vickery and a surprise pick of Freddie King.

Caythorpe batted first and despite an excellent 35 ret out from Cav and a 17 ish from Hannah the total of 93-5 seemed far too low off 20 overs. For once the other batters didnt contribute enough.

ROT took to the field and were restricted to the odd single as both Sam R and Matt H bowled excellent lines. Sam's first two were maidens too. The change bowling saw a few more runs added to the total but it seemed hard going for the ROT lads. The game was finely poised at 10 overs and an exciting finish looked on the cards... Unfortunately a few overs went by with too many hittable 4 balls being bowled.

In the end ROT got home with 4 balls to spare having lost 5 wickets.

Matt H took 3-8 off 4 but in the end the few "expensive" overs in the middle of the innings cost us the match.

Roll on next year

1st Xl fall short against Papplewick

E-mail Print PDF

The 1st Xl were at home to Papplewick who won the toss and chose to bat first, Alex Lloyd and captain Martin Bekker opening.

Jim Hemmings and James Mann opened the bowling and it was James who made the first breakthrough when he had Bekker (14) caught at mid-off by Dan Clayton in the 6th over (33-1)

Dan was in the action again in the 13th over when he caught Lloyd (29) off Billy Wright’s bowling with the score on 58.

John Wakeling and Mark Nelson had taken the score on to 87 in the 22nd over when Stephen Randall caught and bowled Wakeling for 23 and two overs later he trapped Taimoor Khan (0) LBW, the score now 98-4.

Caythorpe’s spin attack continued to make inroads as ‘Rags’ struck again in the 28th over having Nelson (38) caught by keeper Steve Allcoat (118-5) and then Jimmy Hindson had Bradley Matthews (2) caught by Steve Allcoat in the 31st (124-6).

Robin Rhodes and Graeme Roberts steadied things down for the visitors, 150 coming up in the 35th over, but in the 41st Jimmy struck again with a great one handed diving catch off his own bowling to dismiss Robin Rhodes for 24 (159-7).

Roberts (10) went next over, caught at square leg by James Hartley off Randall (160-8) and in the 43rd ‘Hindo’ took his 3rd wicket having Jim Rhodes (0) caught by Billy Wright (160-9).

Not to be outdone ‘Rags’ claimed his ‘5 for’ next over having Nick Hind (1) stumped by Steve Allcoat to close the innings on 162-10, leaving Tony Bettridge 0 not out and the visitors bowled out in 43.3 overs.

Caythorpe’s bowlers returned figures of; Jim Hemmings 5-0-30-0, James Mann 7-1-25-1, Billy Wright 7-1-30-1, Stephen Randall 14.3-1-38-5, Jim Hindson 10-1-35-3.

James Hawley and Dan Clayton opened Caythorpe’s reply making a solid start but in the 14th over Dan (18) got a leading edge and was caught by Bekker off Robin Rhodes (56-1) and then next over Jim Rhodes trapped James Hawley (34) LBW, the score now 58-2.

The collapse continued as Jim Rhodes took four more wickets in consecutive overs, Steve Allcoat (5) caught by Nick Hand in the 17th (61-3), Josh Mierkalns (1) LBW in the 19th (62-4), James Hartley (1) caught at slip by Martin Bekker in the 21st (66-5) and Jimmy Hindson (5) caught by keeper John Wakeling in the 23rd (69-6).

This brought skipper Andy Hunt and Stephen Randall to the middle with a tough task facing them but in the 28th over Andy Hunt (2) was caught by Wakeling off Robin Rhodes (79-7) and then Stephen Randall (14) was caught at slip by Lloyd off Jim Rhodes in the 31st (97-8).

Billy Wright (30) took up the mantle, playing some good shots including 4 fours and a six, but he fell to a catch in the deep by Nick Hand off Robin Rhodes in the 36th over (125-9) leaving Jim Hemmings to join James Mann at the crease.

James played some good shots which included four boundaries and the 150 came up in the 40th over with a four from Jim Hemmings but James (26) went for a big shot in the next over and was caught by Matthews off Taimoor Khan’s first ball, closing the innings on 152-10, with Jim Hemmings 8 not out.

Jim Rhodes finished with 6-45 off 15 overs and Robin Rhodes 3-58 off 15 overs.

U12's march on against ROT...

E-mail Print PDF

The "Big One" tonight ended in a deserved victory for the CCC U12's who march on with a chance at the League title.

ROT won the toss and decided to bat first. They were bouyed by having a number of "County" players in their line up and having only lost once this season. They had the County captain "Saad" opening the batting for them. Sam R and Matt opened up with some tight bowling ensuring they got off to a slow start. After 5 overs Sam produced a beauty which cleaned up the dangerous Saad. Despite bowling reasonably well CCC were giving away extras at a plenty. Far too many wides.................need to learn from this. Sam R took another wicket and Edward chipped in with two as the ROT innings closed on 93-7 after their alloted 18 overs. Sam R was the pick of the Caythorpe attack. The 93 consisted of 27 YES 27 extras of which 20 were WIDES..........take note lads!!!

CCC opened up with Edward and Cav who started briskly before Edward holed out for 7. Following this each Caythorpe "bat" got started before perishing trying to push the score along. Cav - 11, Hannah 16, Sam T 15 ish (can't remember...sorry Sam), Oliver 13 .....Charles (13 no) and Sam R saw Caythorpe home with 9 balls to spare.

All in all a very good result that had all the parents biting their nails to the quick......if only the 27 extras hadn't been shipped it would have been so much easier....

Two games to go and victory in both will see us Champions....keep working at it and SACK THE WIDES....

Well done all.............

Comfortable Victory for the U12's against West Bridgford

E-mail Print PDF

The U12 CCC team travelled to West Bridgford and needed a victory to keep their chances of winning the league alive. Hannah, Callam, Lyndon and Oliver were all missing so in came Matt "Buckie", Tom Rudman, Ben Hart and Ben Vickery.

CCC won the toss and Edward decided to bat. Ed and Cav opened up and put on a decent first wicket partneship before Cav was caught out in his usual place at mid off....that said he batted really well and got us off to a flier...he scored 25 ish....in cam Sam R an again a good partnership with Ed before Edward was cleaned up again for 25 ish....In stepped Sam T who went about his business as usual and timed the ball sweetly.......well most of the time....he eventually retired having scored an excellent 38 no. Charles came in for the last few balls and the innings closed on 136 - 2. Sam R on 28 no at the close.

Matt H and Max opened the bowling for Caythorpe with Matt bowling both openers with "jaffers". Once the top two had gone there wasn't much to come. Ben H, Buckie and Ben V all took wickets. Tom bowled some good stuff and the WB innings closed on 70-6.

A good team performance resulting in a comfortable victory.

It will be much more difficult against R.O.T. tomorrow....good luck.

3rd XI Lose but avoid relegation

E-mail Print PDF

The 3rd XI were hosts to Nuthall on Saturday knowing that five points would see them remain in division E.  Nuthall, in 2nd place in the league were already promoted but could still be champions.

The toss resulted in Caythorpe bowling against only 8 men as more than half the Nuthall side had gone away on holiday (yes holiday... in the cricket season... bizarre) still 8 men meant seven wickets were needed to take full bowling points.

1st Xl lose to leaders CliftonVillage

E-mail Print PDF

The 1st Xl travelled to league leaders Clifton where the home side won the toss and chose to bat first, Dan Birch and Alistair Walters opening. In the 7th over Jim Hemmings removed Walters’ middle stump, bowled for 6 with the score on 11.

Richard Harris was next in and after being dropped early on he settled into a partnership with Birch. The 50 came up in the 14th over, which also saw Harris brilliantly caught by a diving Jimmy Hindson only for his hands to cross the boundary and become a six instead of a wicket. Richard reached his 50 in the 22nd over but in the 25th he was caught by Stephen Randall off Jim Hemmings for 65 which included 3 fours and 6 sixes (109-2), ending a partnership of 98.
