Player of the Year 1987 Richard Manning
1ST XI REPORT 1987 This year saw our return to the S.N.V.L. 1st Division finishing runners-up to Gotham by just a couple of points. The start couldn't have been better with 48 of the 50 points on offer being taken from the first 5 games. However June proved to be a disastrous month with three home defeats and a rained off match. Happily good habits returned with no defeats in the final nine games. During the season bowling and fielding were generally up to standard but even taking the slow wickets into account our batting didn't reach its normal very high standard. However a big success was the introduction of some very promising youngsters into our senior side. Jeff Saxby soon established himself with good bowling and fielding performances. Andrew Bocking displayed great maturity at Clifton when he rescued the side from a tight corner and went on to make 50. Also a fine knock of 89 by Nick Hunt against Ruddington in which he hammered the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Congratulations to Richard Manning, second in both the batting and bowling averages with figures of 32.63 and 11.30 respectively. He rightly received the player of the year award for his all round performances during the season. As a finale we won the League Cup by easily beating Keyworth in the final, with 5 of our team being under 17. Earlier rounds had been against Calverton, Sutton Bonnington and Newstead. Alan F.
