1ST XI REPORT 1986

As in previous seasons the first team started their league season in an uncertain manner but eventually won the first division Championship by 17 points. Impressive wins against Attenborough, Sherwood, Forest Wanderers, Stanton and East Leake during the second half of the season provided this success. Individual performances of note include Eric Screaton's batting average of 57.83 and his century against Woodthorpe. Also Pat Merrin's bowling average of 7.83 and his 8 wickets for 7 against Forest Wanderers. Roger Brown's batting and Cedric Davison's bowling were very significant factors of the team's championship achievement. Another fine performance was to reach and win the Area final of the Norsk Hydro National K.O. Competition with home wins over Pleasley, Teversal and our old rivals Blythe. Then on to thrash Fulbeck by 8 wickets in the Area Final before leaving the competition in an interesting match against the Yorkshire finalists. Caythorpe just failed to take winning trophies in three major cup competitions and had to settle for the runner-up position. These

were against Attenborough in the Mapperley League Cup and against Orston in the Cope Cup final. Also against Notts Colts in the Champion of Champions Final after the tremendous semi-final victory over West Indian Cavaliers. The 1987 season is being heralded with much interest with the first team returning to the South Notts Village League's new Division One where, by good fortune, they will play against the club's second team thanks to their promotion success last year.
