Player of the Year 1984 Eric Screaton
1ST XI REPORT 1984 We lost just one match in our opening season in the new league, this being at Bingham who eventually pipped us to the First Division title by two points. The seaso was dominated by high scoring and early bars. High scores included 312 off 37 overs against East Leake Seconds in which Peter Dolton (126) and Bob Simpson had an opening partnership of 205. Peter's effort won him the Club's Centenary Cup. Against Woodthorpe we scored 198 thanks to Graham Baggaley (76) and Eric Screaton (46) and it was left to Richard Manning and Martyn Justice to dismiss the opposition 91 runs adrift. Early bars were recorded against Nottingham Schoolmasters, Nottingham Victoria and Old Paviors. Congratulations to Eric Screaton and Graham Baggaley who won individual league awards for batting (83.80) and wicket-keeping (21 victims) respectively. In the League Cup we were undefeated with four wins in our group which was followed by an excellent win against Calverton in the semi-final. We met Attenborough in the final and had to chase 191 but with Graham Baggaley (73) showing the only real resistance we lost by 28 runs. Player of the Year was Eric Screaton who took 33 wickets at 6.58 in addition to his batting average of 83.80. The new Premier Division should now provide our First XI with top class cricket. Alan Hunt (captain)
