Player of the Year 1983 Graham Baggaley & Richard Manning
1ST XI REPORT 1983 The opening week of the new season coincided with prolonged heavy rain but the new artificial wicket enabled all home fixtures to be fulfilled - and with a hundred per cent record. At that time it was not known that this was to be the first eleven's final season in the South Notts Village League which they went on to win handsomely and as Champions for the fourth consecutive season. The sole defeat was at Keyworth where the home team's modest total of 119 could not be overcome. Two players won S.N.V.L. 1st Division Awards. Graham Baggaley scored 489 runsat an average of 54.33 to give him the batting prize and Richard Manning received the bowling award for his take of 38 wickets at 10.71. Although the opening attack found wickets hard to come by Pat Merrin and Martyn Justice bowled economically with Pat giving away less than 2 runs an over. In the batting it was pleasing to see as many as 9 players with averages in double figures. Having taken the South Notts Village League first division championship yet again it is with a feeling of both sadness and inevitability that the first team now leaves to take up a new challenge in division one of the Stuart Foster Cricket Combination with sights set on an early promotion to their Premier Section.
