Player of the Year 1982 Eric Screaton
1ST XI REPORT 1982 It was a proud moment for the club when Notts C.C.C. manager Ken Taylor presented the 1st Division Championship Trophy to Alan Hunt --- for keeps --- after Caythorpe had won the title for the third consecutive season. Yet again Eric Screaton was the club's most prolific scorer with centuries against Lowdham (113) and Keyworth (105) contributing to a total of 679 runs, giving an average of 52.23, which once again won him the League's overall batting award. The First Division's bowling award went to Ian Melbourn who helped himself to 32 wickets at an average of 11.18. Perhaps his best performance was against Lowdham when he returned match figures of 5 for 13 in six overs. In a season which saw only two defeats, both the overall team performance and certain individual efforts were commendable. New 'keeper Graham Baggaley created a club league record by taking 8 catches and 11 stumpings. Both Pat Merrin and Martyn Justice returned good figures with their ever consistent bowling, whilst one of the season's most pleasing aspects was the establishment of young Richard Manning in the First XI who took 30 wickets and had the creditable batting average of 24.70. Earlier Caythorpe (201 for 0) had thrashed the League's Chairman's XI who made just 66 with Eric Screaton (111) and Graham Baggaley (82) featuring in the unbroken partnership. It was not therefore surprising when four Caythorpe players were selected for the S.N.V.L. annual representative match against the Combination League. |
